Biographical Details
Benjamin Shout was the uncle and partner of Robert Shout. He and his nephew were in business together by 1785, when their tradecard described them as ‘Sculptors and Masons’. Benjamin appears to have had the freehold on both of the firm’s yards, at 13 Eagle Street, St Andrew, Holborn, and at nearby 18 High Holborn. Benjamin had a number of business interests including a part share in a family shipping business, and he carried on trade as an ‘oilman’ from premises at Queen Street, Holborn.
He died early in 1811, leaving the premises in Eagle Street to his wife, Elizabeth, and arranging for his half share of the business, including all the ‘stock of manufactured and unmanufactured’ goods and materials, to be converted by Robert Shout into shares for his wife and his son, Benjamin.
In the following list, monuments to those who died before 1811 are assumed to be products of the partnership of Robert and Benjamin.
