Biographical Details
A mason and architect from Helmsley, N R Yorks, in 1741 he carved the architrave of a window in the gallery wing at Gilling Castle for Lord Fairfax. He was paid £30 in 1749-50 for steps to the hall door, and £42 in 1752 for the summer house in the castle grounds. He was also responsible for unspecified work at Newburgh Priory, N R Yorks in 1745, when he received 105 guineas (Wombwell Archives in GPC). From 1757 to 1765 he was surveyor of bridges for the North Riding of Yorkshire. He designed and built Elemore Hall, Co Durham, between 1749 and 1753.
