Biographical Details
The son of Henry Shout, he was appointed master-mason to the Minster in 1794, and in 1813 renewed and re-cut figures at the west end. He was buried at Huntington, near York, where his epitaph states: ‘for forty years with credit to himself and satisfaction to his employers he conducted the repairs and restoration of York Minster’.
