Biographical Details
A landscape painter and modeller, he was born in Dundee in 1803. He exhibited sculpture at the Royal Scottish Academy between 1831 and 1834, from addresses in North Hanover Street and Queen Street. After that date he appears to have concentrated on painting, exhibiting Scottish landscape views regularly between 1844 and 1864. An undated plaster bust by David Simson of his brother William Simson RSA, who was also a landscape painter, is in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery (8). Simson died at Edinburgh on 27 March 1874.
