Biographical Details
Goodwin was one of a family of masons, several generations of whom were christened Robert. He was apprenticed to John Haines of Stamford. Later in life he became the landlord of the Masons’ Arms, Scotgate, Stamford. His building works included Snowden’s Hospital, 1822-1823. His son Robert Goodwin II was also a general mason. Another family member was James Goodwin, who died in 1803, aged 45.
