Biographical Details
In 1732 John Boson executed much of the woodwork in Canterbury Cathedral, including carvings for the altar and reredos. This work appears to have been completed by Balshaw, who in 1733 received payments totalling £582 for work in the chancel (1). Among items mentioned are ‘Six shafts of Corinthian columns £84’ and ‘Six capitals £30’. The cost of packing and freight from London came to £50, which the architect, John James, considered too much, though he passed the other charges (Canterbury Cathedral Fabric Account Book).
