Biographical Details
In 1718 he agreed with Lord Cowper to finish a house in Great George Street, Hanover Square. Writing to Cowper about chimneypieces for the house, Barlow added ‘I will giet such as your Lordship shall like, as to sort and maner, both plain and Italen molded, tho. I think the molded ones are not so much used now’ (GPC) (1). He can perhaps be identified with the William Barlow who in 1725 paid 7s 6d rates on a property in Oxford Street, next door to Robert Hartshorne and not far from Michael Rysbrack in Vere Street (St Maylebone Rate Books, reel 1, 1683-1731).
