Biographical Details	Bate became a burgess of Shrewsbury in 1814 (Shrewsbury Town Archives, cited by Gunnis 1968, 42). His only recorded work is a large wall-tablet to the Birch family. Gunnis noted that at first sight this appears to be a typical London product of the late 18th century and that it shows how slowly new designs reached the more distant counties.
