Biographical Details
‘J. Bax, Statuary and Mason, nearly opposite the Bank, Queen-Street, Deal’ advertised in the Kentish Gazette on 1 September 1821 that he had ‘taken the above business of Mr B. Eastes, that was conducted by the late Mr W. Bailey’ and was able to provide ‘Tombs, Monuments, Chimney Pieces, and every other kind of masonry, executed on the shortest notice, and most reasonable terms’ (GPC). Gunnis considered his two wall-tablets in Walmer parish church 'unexciting’ (1, 2).
