Biographical Details
He became a freeman of Doncaster on 19 September 1713. In 1744 the town council decided that he should be employed for ‘the inside masons’ work at ye Mansion House’, then being built to the designs of James Paine. His son, John Beal II, became a freeman on 28 December 1742, and William Beal, who was probably another relation, on 1 October 1750. They were both described as masons (Doncaster Corp Archives, cited by Gunnis 1968, 43).
