Biographical Details
Le Mason, who was French Academician, exhibited a bust of the architect Sir William Chambers and medallions of his two daughters at the Royal Academy in 1790 (1, 4, 5). In the same year he made two reliefs for the exterior of the sculpture gallery at Woburn (3). In a letter to the Duke of Bedford Le Mason explained that he could not charge less than 25 guineas for the pair, ‘seeing that I shall have to pay for fresh fruit and flowers and other indispensable articles’ (Woburn Abbey Archives in Gunnis 1968, 238). His address in London was recorded as 33 Oxford Street.
