Biographical Details
Le Piper was the son of a wealthy merchant who, having substantial private means, took up art as an amusement. Most of his works were drawings, paintings and engravings, but ‘in the latter part of his life he apply'd himself to the Study and Practice of Modelling in wax, in basso-relievo, in which he did abundance of things with good success. He often said he wish’d he had thought of it sooner, for that sort of work suited better with his genius than any. Had he lived longer he would have arriv’d to a great Perfection in it’.
