There are references in the Leeds Town Hall committee minutes to work by Lee and Welsh, Walsh & Lee and Dennis, Lee and Welsh, who were clearly interconnected. They read as follows: ‘26 Nov 1858. Lee and Welsh paid £33 4s for marble pedestals; 18 June 1865 Lee and Walsh paid £4 10s for a marble mantle piece; 27 Feb 1865. Dennis Lee and Welsh paid £7 15s 6d for cleaning statues; 1 Feb 1867. Dennis Lee and Welsh paid £29 9s for cleaning statues and marrble’ (HMI, misc file).
