Biographical Details
The son of Nicholas Lesow, of Wandswoth, a coppersmith, he was apprenticed to Thomas Dunn on 14 December 1716, becoming free in 1723. In 1734 he had a yard at ‘the Bridgehouse’ in Bermondsey. He was mason to St Thomas’s Hospital from 1729 till his death in 1738, receiving £229 for the masonry of ‘the new building’ in 1734. His widow, Ursula, carried on the business until her death in 1741 (Hospital Archives in Gunnis 1968, 239). Lesow was employed in building work at Guy’s Hospital at the time of his death.
