Biographical Details
Although tablets by this firm ‘are in no way outstanding in design, rarely showing anything more ambitious than the conventional figure of a mourning widow or a fluted semi-urn against a pyramid’ (Gunnis 1968, 239) some have ‘a certain charm’ (Potterton 1975, 57). The monument to Rev Richard Buck is copied from a design by John Flaxman and that to Augusta Rossmore shows the depairing Lord Rossmore seated beside his wife’s vacant chair (70, 84). Another at Cilycwm, is a ‘fine work’ with a mourning woman leaning on a broken pillar (Dale-Jones and Lloyd 1989, 51) (100).
