Biographical Details
He became a freeman of Doncaster on 21 November 1794, on payment of 20 guineas. In 1807 he was elected to the town council and he was later twice elected mayor (Corporation Archives in Gunnis 1968, 241). He died on 14 February 1837. His son, also Joseph, became a freeman of Doncaster on 5 January, 1808. Gunnis notes that most of his tablets are neo-Hellenic in design and that the Samuel Tooker has a relief of fasces (Gunnis 1968, 241) (4).
