Biographical Details
He was ‘bred a mason’ (TNA C12 1287/20), but subsequently became a carver and gilder with his own business in Long Acre. He subcontracted work for Samuel Norman, and oversaw Norman’s brief and unsuccessful venture into the masonry business in June 1759. He brought a successful action against Norman in the Court of King’s Bench in 1760. Norman was ordered to pay damages of £140 although he swiftly retaliated with a counter-action in Chancery in 1761.
