In February 1780 Arnold and Co informed the public that they had opened an artificial stone manufactory at 1 Upper James Street, Golden Square, London ‘on an improved and reduced Plan, where Gentlemen, Builders and others, may be accommodated with every necessary Decoration for external and internal Parts of Buildings, finished in the most elegant Stile, such as Capitals, Pedestals, Statues, Vases, Doorcases, Pateras, Tablets, Medallions, with a Variety of Chimney-Piece Ornaments, Festoons of Flowers ditto, of Vines etc’ (Daily Ad, 3-4 February 1780). Two months later they announced that the partnership between John Lynn, Samuel Arnold and Thomas Sharp had been dissolved and that in future it would be conducted by John Lynn and Thomas Sharpe only. The firm’s trade card, dated 1780, is in Banks Collection at the British Museum ( BM, 106.19)
