Biographical Details
He was perhaps the son of Robert and Mary Mace, christened on 12 May 1811 at South Moreton, Berks. He enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools, aged 16, in March 1818. On 28 February 1843, a notice in the Norwich Mercury, described him as a pupil of Sir Francis Chantrey. In 1820, while living in Queen’s Row, Pimlico, he was awarded a medal from the Society of Arts (24) and another followed in 1821 (25).
Mace signed a handful of monuments but chiefly exhibited busts. He lived in Pimlico, near Chantrey, 1826-39, changing his address five times in the period.
