Biographical Details A mason of John Street, Tottenham Court Road, he went into partnership with J C F Rossi about 1790, principally producing works in terracotta or artificial stone. The partners modelled statues of Music and Dancing for the Assembly Rooms at Leicester in 1796 (12). Their employees included James George Bubb who, Bingley later stated, worked for them on Rossi’s monument to Captain Robert Faulknor in St Paul’s Cathedral (CLRO Misc MSS 207-8). The partnership does not seem to have been a success and was later dissolved. As an independent practitioner Bingley executed a number of chimneypieces and church monuments. He was also employed by Lord Radnor at 6 Grosvenor Street in 1802, and in 1807 received £655 from Earl Grosvenor for unidentified work at Grosvenor House, London. Bingley’s stock was auctioned in March 1807 after his bankruptcy (Morning Chronicle, 23 March 1807, inf Jon Bayliss).
