Biographical Details
In 1764 Reynolds was apprenticed, but Dossie leaves the name of his master blank (Gunnis’s ‘Mr Fest’ is a misreading of ‘festoon’). Dossie described him as a woodcarver. On 18 May 1764 he won a four guinea premium from the Society of Arts in the under-19 class (1) and on 24 May 1765, a 5 guinea premium, for a model by a youth aged nineteen (2). Nothing more is known of him.
