Biographical Details
The son of Peter Rouw I and brother of Peter Rouw II, he is probably the ‘H Rouw Junior’ who exhibited paintings at the Royal Academy between 1796 and 1803. Pyke describes him as a wax modeller and painter but gives no examples of his works in wax. Gunnis felt that as a statuary Henry was not the equal of his brother. His most successful works are perhaps the monument to Jane Akers at Yalding, which has a relief of an angel bearing a child heavenwards, and that to the brothers Aubrey in Paddington which has a figure of Victory standing by a sarcophagus with medallion portraits of the two officers (7, 10). He is buried at All Souls, Kensal Green (inf. Bob Moulder).
