Biographical Details
He exhibited wax portraits at the Society of Artists, 1770-l776, giving his address as ‘At Mr. Brown, hairdresser, in St. Clement’s churchyard’ and ‘19 Borough’. In 1777 a wax-modeller called Ryal, who was an honorary exhibitor, showed a ‘portrait of a gentleman in wax’ (cat 332). It seems likely that he was the same man.
