Biographical Details
In St Peter, Cornhill, is a monument to the memory of the seven children of James and Mary Woodmason, who died during a fire at their home in Leadenhall Street in 1782. It takes the form of an oval tablet carved with seven winged cherubs’ heads and Augustus Hare states that it is by an artist called Ryley (Hare 1878, I, 361). This may well be an error. Francesco Bartolozzi prepared an engraving of the monument based on a drawing by the painter Charles Reuben Ryley (1752-1798), which was published in Robert Wilkinson's Londina Illustrata.
