Biographical Details
He exhibited a marble bust at the Royal Academy in 1832 from 57 Russell Square (1). Boswood posed for the artist George Richmond (1809-1896) on a number of occasions. A pen and ink portrait sketch by Richmond is dated 10 September 1829 (coll Prof Philip Rieff, Pennsylvania, USA, repr Lister 1981, 17). Several anatomical sketches of the sculptor by the same artist came onto the British art market in 2000 (C Lib repr). He may be the 'Boswood' who worked in Sir Francis Chantrey's workshop, on the carving of a statue of Lord Blair in 1815-17.
