Biographical Details
The brother of Sefferin Alken, he was one of the principal woodcarvers at Lansdowne House (1). By his will, which gives his address as Little Titchfield, Marylebone and his profession as ‘Carver’, he entrusted the care of his son (also called Sefferin) and daughter Ann to his brother’s apprentice, Richard Lawrence, and to James Thorne.
