Biographical Details
Bowers was one of three sculptors involved in work on the Monument, 1671-77, with C G Cibber and Edward Pearce (1). The bronze urn that tops the edifice was cast by Robert Bird and raised into position on 15 July 1676. Bowers had ‘begun ye ornamentall work about the Urne’ on 5 July (CLRO, Journal of the City Lands Committee, fol 58r, Minutes of 5 July 1676) and was ordered to affix his decorations on 6 August (ibid, fols 66r-67, 6 August 1676).
