Biographical Details
The red sandstone monuments in Fenwick churchyard erected to Mr Guthrie in 1844 and Captain Paton in 1853 are signed by J Bowie (1, 2). In his History of Kilmarnock (3rd ed, 1864, 5) Archibald Mackay states that Bowie was a Kilmarnock sculptor and mentions a work that has not been traced, a statue of Captain Paton carved by Bowie (3).
