Biographical Details
Richard Bowles was made free of the Masons’ Company by service to William Holland in 1721. He was an assistant in the company by about 1740, when he lived in Shoreditch. In 1765 Trevor, Bishop of Durham, who was building a church at Glynde in Sussex, paid him £20 for a ‘handsum veined marble font, properly ornemented’ (Archives, Brand of Glynde, cited by Gunnis 1968, 60) (2).
