Biographical Details
As chief sculptor to the Elector Palatine, he chose, perhaps surprisingly, to exhibit at the Free Society in 1765 (3). Lord Rockingham bought his busts of Homer and Mithridates from John Shackleton in March 1762 (1, 2). George Bubb Doddington recorded in his diary for 27 June 1752 ‘Mr Verschaffelts dined here, and I paid him 100 l. in part, for his statue’. No information has emerged on this work. (Inf. Gordon Balderston)
