Biographical Details
In 1790 Vidler's yard was in Millbank Street, Westminster. He was variously employed at Richmond Palace in 1796, and carved the capitals of the piers for the gateway into the Botanic Gardens (2). In 1804 he claimed £1,255 for sundry work carried out at the White Lodge, Richmond (TNA, WORK, 19.25/9 fol 17). Gunnis suggests that he may be the Vidler who signed the ‘very pretty’ monument to William Lowndes, which has a portrait relief in an oval medallion (1).
