Biographical Details
As a mason and stone-carver he was employed at Carlton House in 1789-90 (Gunnis 1968, 412, incorrectly cites PRO, HO 73/24). In the following year he received £89 2s for sundry works at Woburn Abbey, the second receipt signed by his son W Wallis. His trade card is among the papers of George Selwyn at Castle Howard; on it he describes himself as a ‘mason’, living at 6 Market Lane, Pall Mall, with a yard near the turn-pike, Pimlico.
