Biographical Details
About 1840 he opened a showroom and began to do business at 39 Gillygate, York, after having worked at the Minster as carver and mason. In 1858 he was working at St Helen’s church. He carved heads of French and English generals and admirals who took part in the Crimean War for a house in Bootham Terrace, York (4). Other Bradleys worked in the city as statuaries and masons, including William, master mason at York Minster in 1705, John, a freemason, who became a freeman of York in 1739, and Robert, who described himself as ‘sculptor’ in the York directory of 1841.
