Biographical Details A London sculptor, Walters is known chiefly as a carver of chimneypieces, including 121 at Kensington Palace, supplied with his partners, Thomas Hill and John Thompson. Together they received £2,321 for various works at that palace. In 1700 the executors of Thomas, Lord Crewe made Walters a payment of £179 for Crewe’s monument (1). Lord notes that such a large sum suggests a considerable reputation for such items and that he should therefore be viewed as a major monumental sculptor. The Crewe monument has been variously misattributed to Joseph Catterns and Edward Stanton.
