Biographical Details
He was the son of Elizabeth, née Richards, and Isaac Ware (the architect) and the grandson of James Richards who employed him. In August 1750 the Board of Works received and approved a petition from Richards the master carver, to perform the carver’s work with his grandson ‘James Ware’. In Richards’s will, proved in January 1760, he set aside a sum not to exceed £200 to pay Ware’s ‘debts’, in order to set himself at liberty ‘that he may by his industry get his living.’ The sum was reduced to £100 in a codicil. He was also left £1,000 in securities.
