In August 1750 the Board of Works received and approved a petition from Richards the master carver, to perform the carver’s work with his grandson ‘James Ware’. In Richards’s will, proved in January 1760, he set aside a sum not to exceed £200 to pay Ware’s ‘debts’, in order to set himself at liberty ‘that he may by his industry get his living.’ The sum was reduced to £100 in a codicil. He was also left £1,000 in securities.
