The Northampton Mercury for 10 June 1751 carried an advertisement that the ‘Stone Quarry Pit at Taternhoe near Dunstable, Bedfordshire’, which had belonged to the late Daniel Watkin, was ‘now opened by Mrs. Watkin’ and that ‘Chimney-pieces, monuments, tombs and headstones’ could be obtained at reasonable prices’.
