Biographical Details
A son of Richard Westmacott I and the brother of Sir Richard Westmacott RA, he exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1799-1820, and at the British Institution in 1808, showing sculpture and a design for a cottage. His recorded addresses were 5 Mount Street; 12 Lower Belgrave Place, Pimlico; 2 Ranelagh Walk, Pimlico; Avery Farm Row, Chelsea and 4 Vauxhall Road. He appears to have assisted his brother Henry Westmacott, for payments for the base of the Achilles statue in Hyde Park were made to them jointly. In his father’s will he is described as George Westmacott of Portman Place in the Parish of St Mary le Bow. He inherited nothing as he was ‘already provided for’, perhaps as a beneficiary of the agreement whereby Sir Richard Westmacott took care of the family (PROB 11/1483, 253-4).
