Biographical Details
The son of William Wooles, a Bristol surveyor, he came to London as a boy and entered the studio of E H Baily. In 1827, while living at 154 High Holborn, he won a gold medal from the Society of Arts, and two years later joined the Royal Academy Schools, gaining a silver medal for a model in 1830 (12, 14). He exhibited at the Society of British Artists’ Suffolk Street Galleries between 1828 and 1834 and at the RA 1830-33, from addresses given as 38 Newman Street; 15 Frith Street, Soho Square; 44 Ludgate Hill and 7 Cleveland Street, Fitzroy Square. He died on 4 May 1835 and a short obituary appeared in the Gentleman's Magazine the following month (GM, 1835, i, 667).
