Biographical Details
As a mason he was responsible for building St. Bridget’s church, Chester, in 1827, executing the work ‘in a superior style of elegance’ (Hemingway 1931, II, 116). Gunnis notes that the monuments are Hellenistic in style and uninspiring in workmanship though Hemingway calls the Shaw family tablet (5) a beautifully executed work (op cit, 118). He was in partnership at one time with Elizabeth Harrison of Chester (3).
