Biographical Details
They were a large and confusing family embracing at least two generations. A James Broomhall was apprenticed to Jasper Latham in 1679 and another family member with the same name was the son of Thomas Bromhall and was apprenticed to his father in 1697, being made free of the Masons’ Company on 12 October 1716. In 1726 Benjamin Hoare, who was then engaged in building Boreham House, near Chelmsford, paid ‘John Broomhall’ seven guineas for a model, though on 1 April 1732, James Broomhall received £26 in full for joiner’s work. It is not clear whether two members of the family were employed by Hoare.
