At least 4 generations of a family of stonemasons from Llanbedr, near Crickhowell in Breconshire, who produced many ledger-stones, chest tombs, grave stones and naive rococo stone and painted wall monuments in Brecon, Radnor and Monmouths. John Brute I is described as a mason in family records, but does not appear to have signed his work. 76 signed monuments have been identified by his son, grandson and great-grandson, the most prominent of which are listed below.
