Biographical Details
Buck exhibited three works, which Gunnis identifies as reliefs, at the Royal Academy and the British Institution between 1817 and 1821. His address was Nottingham Street in 1817 and 1 Great Chesterfield Street from 1819 onwards. In his dictionary of British Institution contributors Graves describes the artist as a sculptor and painter and the two studies from nature he exhibited there in 1833 were probably pictures (Graves 1875, 75). It is possible that he was the same John Buck who, together with John Ely Hinchliff, witnessed the will of John Flaxman in March 1820, though he then gave his address as 24 Great Marylebone Street (PROB 11/1720, 129).
