Biographical Details
Allen was apprenticed to John Blackburn (I?) and was made free in July 1808. Notices of the erection of the monument to Charles Chapman (1) appeared in the Norwich Mercury on 21 April 1827. He died on 18 September 1857 aged 80 and is commemorated by a tablet in St Stephen’s Church, near which he had a yard, although when he advertised for a journeyman in 1821, he gave his address as St Edmund’s (Norfolk Chronicle, 4 August 1821). Documents in the Norfolk Record Office attest to a range of property interests (N/TC/D1/544/17,18,27,33 and N/TC/D1/551/1).
