Biographical Details
Burnett was born in Dublin about 1810. He was employed by Thomas Kirk for some years but from about 1835 worked on his own in Paradise Row and then Phibsborough Road. He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy, 1829-56, showing figures, reliefs and portrait busts, including two of his former master (7, 8) His statue of The young musician, first exhibited in 1850, was later shown at the Dublin International Exhibition of 1853 and another version of the subject was exhibited in 1856 (4). Burnett’s younger brother, William Burnett, who was born about 1819, exhibited a bust of Archbishop Murray at the RHA in 1852.
