Biographical Details
Cakebread worked in marble and stone, producing tablets with careful and well-cut details. On 4 January 1817 he placed an advertisement in the Northampton Mercury, stating ‘G.Cakebread, Statuary, Bloxham, Oxfordshire, Returns his most grateful Acknowledgement to the Nobility, Gentry and his numerous Friends, for the very liberal support with which they have favoured him, and most respectfully begs Leave to inform them, he has, at this Time, a large Stock of beautiful Sienna, Statuary, white and veined, dove and other Marble Chimney Pieces, worked to the most modern Taste, ready for Inspection and sale, at Prices unusually low, and pledges himself that every Attention shall be paid to the Execution of any Orders he may receive in the Chimney Piece, Monumental, Tomb or Gravestone Departments’.
