Biographical Details
He is mentioned in the will of Michael Rysbrack, dated 5 March 1768, as a ‘carver in Oxford Chapel Court’ (PROB 11/954/28). Rysbrack left £10 to Chaplin, and £10 to Chaplin’s son, John, who was Rysbrack’s godson. The Chaplins may have been related to William Chaplin, who was apprenticed as a mason to William Trymmer in October 1717.
