Biographical Details
The daughter of the 4th Earl of Berkeley, she married the 6th Earl of Craven in 1767. A fortnight after the latter's death in 1791 she became the wife of Christian, Margrave of Brandenburg-Anspach.
She is best remembered as a playwright and travel journalist but her talents extended to sculpture. In 1806 she received the silver medal from the Society of Arts for a bas-relief in clay of her second husband, who had died the previous year (1). An illustration of this work forms the frontispiece of the second volume of her autobiography, Memoirs of the Margravine of Anspach… Written by Herself (1826).
