Biographical Details
The Masons’ Company’s general search of 1694 states ‘William Colbourne works att Mr Nest’s [John Nost I], in the Haymarket, bound to Mr. Bumstead [John Bumpstead], not yet free’ (Masons Co, Court Book, 1677-94, fol 165r). Colebourne, who also worked for William Kidwell, signs a fine and important monument to Jacob Holte, taking the form of a great urn in an architectural setting (1). He may have been related to the ‘W. Coleburne Londinensi Architecto’ who signs the monument in Armagh to Dean Drelincourt. The reclining figure of the dean is by Michael Rysbrack.
