Biographical Details
He signs a handsome marble table tomb in Virginia to John Custis (1). The epitaph states that Custis died ‘Aged 71 years and yet liv’d but seven years which was the space of time he kept a bachelor’s house at Arlington.’ Colley signs the work ‘Wm COLLEY mason in Fenn Church Street, London, Fecit’. Colley added of the curious epitaph ‘this inscription on the tomb was by his own positive order’.
