Biographical Details
Colquhoun was responsible for the statues of the Hutcheson brothers, two lawyers whose bequest led to the building of a hospital and school in Glasgow between 1641 and 1660 which bears their name (1). He was a mason and builder who also repaired and gilded the bell of the original building in 1683. The statues now stand on the new building, which dates from 1802-5. Colquhoun is credited with inventing Glasgow’s first fire engine, and was a bailie on the town council.
